South Road Superway

image

The Urban Superway Joint Venture invited GHD to join them as the designer for the construction of the South Road Superway in South Australia.

A significant challenge of this project was the narrow corridor within which the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) of South Australia planned to deliver a new managed motorway standard elevated roadway with up to four lanes in each direction, over an existing arterial road with two lanes in each direction and almost no new land acquisition.

Two Decades of Durability in Docklands

image

GHD has been providing durability design and assurance services for Melbourne Docklands public area promenades for more than two decades.

All Docklands developments must ensure uninterrupted public access to the river and dock areas and so all developers are required to provide wide promenades in front of the buildings. As ultimate owner of the promenades, City of Melbourne has required a formal durability planning process for all promenade structures to comply with its maritime structures design standard. The key requirement is for minimal maintenance for the first 25 years of service, and to then achieve a 50 year service life with planned maintenance.

Upgrade of Bolivar WWTP Aeration Tank Diffused Air System

image

SA Water required refurbishment of the wastewater treatment plant aeration tank diffused air system at Bolivar, the largest WWTP in South Australia.

The company engaged GHD to advise on the upgrade, with the objectives of improved reliability of diffusers (current changeover is every two years); increased removal of nitrogen from effluent; and decreased power consumption of blowers.
